The largest gastropod in Florida and one of the largest in the world the Horse Conch can reach as much as 24 in. long. They feed mainly on other gastropods.

The Horse Conch is found mainly in bays and grassy salt water flats. Their egg masses are found on sand and consist of large clusters.

Very popular in seafood dishes and as sounvenirs, shelling and hunting have reduced their numbers so significantly than they endangered in many coastal locations.

The Horse Conch is the state shell of Florida.
